Aziza (Dr. Z) Baccouche, a BLIND, African American, Theoretical Nuclear Physicist and Filmmaker fights to survive her fifth brain surgery. She tells the story of her life from the age of eight in Tunisia, being blinded by a brain tumor. Immigrating to the USA and her challenges as a disabled African American overcoming adversity, discrimination and poverty might seem daunting to most, but not to Aziza. She believes her strengths lay, “beyond the cane.” With vision for her life’s purpose and faith in her Creator, Aziza became the first blind African American woman to receive a physics degree from the College of William and Mary, a correspondent for CNN, Kojo Nnamdi, and flew through the eye of a hurricane. As she is wheeled into possibly her final surgery, she continues her life long efforts to inspire African Americans, the blind, and other minority groups who are under-represented to reach for their dreams using her life as the example that, “it does not take sight to have vision.”
